Saw Hotel Rwanda on Monday and it was absolutely stunning.
On a broader note it was unfortunate for me to realilze that my history/biblical lessons seem to be coming from Hollywood. I guess this could be a good thing, at least its getting out there.

Re: Hotel Rwanda
Thu, March 10, 2005 - 1:59 PMI always have mixed feelings when they make Hollywood stunners about tragedies that were largely ignored or denied legitimacy while they were actually going on - it's almost like a 10 year safe zone so that people don't have to feel too integral to the problem or intimate with the issue. On the other hand, an impactful and dynamic piece of film that provides the basis for some sort of public forum and reaches millions is worth a lot - especially if it can serve the purpose of familiarizing us with the issues as they stand today. Nevertheless it frustrates me when human slaughter gets relegated to the status of a sad historical artifact - I think if it was more of an open topic while it happened we could learn much more about what was lacking in preventing it.
Not a knock against Hotel Rwanda, by the way.
